Know Your Colleague – Ajay R Y

June 19, 2017

In Near’s Know Your Colleague series, you will get to know the members of Team Near who play a key role in driving Near’s mission, values and day-to-day operations. This is a monthly series, and we shall have one employee cover every month. This month we asked a few questions to Ajay R Y, Lead Data Engineer who is based out of our Bangalore office. Here’s what he had to say:

Ajay R Y

When did you join Near? How has your experience here been so far?

I joined Near in Dec’13 and since then my days have been flying past so fast, leaving beautiful memories and experiences in their wake. It has been a pleasure working with a bunch of dedicated, polite and skilled engineers.

What are your key responsibilities?

Being a part of the Data team has given me ample opportunities to solve some real-world challenging problems (related to distributed systems) and has given me a chance to work with some of the most bleeding-edge technologies of today. Building efficient and scalable data pipelines is my mundane job at Near; and I love this work and try to do my job with dedication and passion.

Some of my core contributions include Analytics & Optimization pipelines, tracking user-footfalls and attribution in real world in real time, grid-stores, contributing to the DaaS APIs, and much much more!

What do you have to say about the culture at Near?

Great culture and the best place to work at. You can expect great support from every single member of my team. Not to forget the freedom and flexibility that Near offers, make the work culture at Near just amazing!

Tell us a few things that you look forward to doing or catching up when you are not at work?

I spend my leisure time reading books (spiritual and autobiographies), solving chess puzzles on chess.com, and studying some of the great games played by the Grand Masters of all times - Paul Morphy, Capablanca, and Bobby Fischer. Swimming and badminton are some other hobbies that keep me physically fit and mentally active.

Lastly, any interesting thing about you that you’d like to share that most of us don’t know?

Realized the existence of “Hidden laws of nature”.
