Know Your Colleague – Jils Joseph
April 25, 2017
In Near’s Know Your Colleague series, you will get to know the members of Team Near who play a key role in driving Near’s mission, values and day-to-day operations. This is a monthly series, and we shall have one employee cover every month. This month we asked a few questions to Jils Joseph, our Platform Solutions Lead, who is based out of our Bangalore office. Here’s what he had to say:
Jils, tell us about yourself:
I hail from a remote village in Kerala known as Vilangad (11.772123, 75.754588), just 7 hours drive from Bangalore. Lived most of my life in a small town of Maharashtra. Moved to Bangalore to do my higher studies in 2006. And since then haven’t gotten a chance to move elsewhere. Married and have a naughty 8-month-old boy.
I can actually take you to a Jungle Safari free of cost but can’t assure a return as recently there has been some Maoist activities happening around!!
When did you join Near? And how has your experience been here so far?
Joined Near in January, 2015. And these 2 years have passed at a lightning speed. From where I started to where I am, my knowledge and perception on how data can be insightful to business is still far from reaching the crest of it.
Tell us one thing that you look forward to, at Near everyday?
Apart from the food, first thing I look forward to after I enter office is if “All is well” with the campaigns in UK, and then I wait for 8 PM so that I can have the whole office to myself, and some loud music to work with. Btw, some of you should try the JBL speakers we have during office hours. It helps a lot!!
What can we find you doing outside of work?
Most of my time outside of work goes in travelling. I am not so fond of city life, so I prefer driving out of Bangalore exploring unexplored places. The latest hobby I have developed is entertaining, and being entertained by my son.
How would your friends & colleagues describe you?
Some have coined me/us (UK PS Team) as “Villains”. I am trying not to change that. But otherwise, the PS team would agree that I have been able to match their expectations while sitting down for a drink, be it a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
Any crazy or funny experience you’d like to share?
I was so weak in Chemistry that I had to nearly copy the entire thing in the board exam from a friend sitting next to me (who was good at the subject!!). And the funniest part (unfortunately!) was she barely passed the exam, and I acquired decent marks.
P.S: We are still good friends!!
