Know Your Colleague – Ram Kumar Sridhara
In Near’s Know Your Colleague series, you will get to know the members of Team Near who play a key role in driving Near’s mission, values, and day-to-day operations. This is a monthly series, and we shall cover one employee every month. This month we asked a few questions to Ram Kumar Sridhara, Business Analyst, who is based out of our Bangalore office and has been with Near for almost five years. Here’s what he had to say:
Tell us more about yourself
I like composing electronic music tracks, playing video games, watching TV shows on weekdays and movies on weekends. I read books when I don’t get the chance to do any of the above three.
You process tons of Data - Did you come across any insight which really surprised you?
I was really surprised when I looked at the results of the human mobility in New Zealand during the peak of summer which is also their major holiday season. This was from the last half of the December (2017) to the Mid-January (2018).
The migration from the larger cities to the smaller beach towns during this time increased from about 1.8 to 2.5 million people.
What are your interests outside of work?
I love playing sports because I like the competitive aspect of it. I always push myself to the limit. Apart from sports, I love clubbing.
How has been your life at Near be like?
My experience at Near has been really great. I have learned a lot in a fast-paced environment. There are numerous choices in technology areas in which we can work.
I am blessed to have super smart co-workers. There are plenty of learning opportunities and growth within the company.
Who are your icons?
My idol is my father. He provided us with everything that he lacked in his childhood.
What is at the top of your bucket list?
Right now, there are two things which are at the top of my bucket list. One is going trekking in the Himalayas and the other is to visit Austria. Mind you, Vienna has been declared as the most liveable city in a recent global survey.
Since you mentioned you love sports, who are your favorite sportspersons?
Novak Djokovic (Tennis) and Sebastian Vettel (Formula 1). They are my favorites because first of all, I love both tennis and motorsports and second - they both have achieved great heights in their respective sports.
Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?
Tennis is my passion. I would want to trade places with Novak Djokovic (‘Joker’) to see what it would be like to be one of the best athletes.
Any secret about yourself which very few people know about:
I am scared of dogs but I want to gift myself one.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever heard?
The best advice I ever got is “That whatever I want - I need to fight and work hard to get it.” Since I heard these words, they have stayed with me.
Do you have any phobias you’d like to break?
I have Ophidophobia i.e. fear of Snakes. I am quite scared of the serpents but then I want to get rid of this phobia.
What’s your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is ‘The Prestige’. It has magic, thrills, and mystery.
